Mother & Daughter Teddy Bear Tea
Parasols are a Girl’s Shade Companion
The Teddy Bear Tea and Picnic (May of 2019) was a wonderful event! We all had a lovely time, and the weather was perfect! The little girls had their own little table and picnic area and played with their Teddies. They also enjoyed playing with the parasols I made. The two smaller parasols shown above were re-made from little girl’s umbrellas. Even though I could find parasols fairly inexpensively, they wouldn’t have been as sturdy as these were. I took apart the umbrellas and used one of the sections as a pattern. Then I sewed the sections together and both sewed and glued it to the frame. I covered the knob with silk flowers, and glued lace and silk flowers around the edges. The little girls loved them! The larger parasol was just an umbrella which I covered with a small, round lace tablecloth and glued into place, then added a ruffled lace border and silk flowers.
My youngest party goer was 4 months, and my oldest was 96! The nice thing about an outdoor party is that you can have a lot of people over, and its okay if a child spills something.
Teddy Bears of all sizes were dressed and used as decorations
Everyone wore a Hat!
Okay, not everyone, but everyone was supposed to! It’s my thing: You must wear a hat. I provide hats to be borrowed, so there are no excuses for not wearing one!
A Special Little Table was set up for the Little Girls, and had Little Dishes
The girls ate at their table, and I put punch in the teapot for them. There was also a set of doll dishes set out on the quilt for their bears to use. The dishes are a combination of a demitasse set, and plates that coordinated, both found on e-bay. They are larger than most doll or child sized dishes, but smaller than Mom’s. The rose topped gold flatware was a gift from my sister Joy, many years ago, and is smaller than regular stainless, and super cute!
Oh The Food!
There was, of course lots of yummy food. I learned over the years that women like to bring things, so I include that as an option on my invitations. I provide sandwiches and finger foods, punch, teas. scones, fruit, cookies and other treats. This year my daughters Ellie and Chellie helped me make and decorate “Cub Cakes” instead of cupcakes! They were so cute! But they really took a long time to make and decorate! Other friends brought things like cobblers, more scones, more cookies, and even homemade egg rolls!
“Cub-Cakes!”
The white Cub-Cakes with strawberry icing didn’t look as pretty as the chocolate ones with chocolate fudge icing. I learn as I go! Also, they had to be individually wrapped on a plate, so they really were time consuming! The best part was spending the time with my daughters though, so it was worth the time investment. The skirts are made from miniature cupcake liners!
Wrapped Cub-Cakes, and the Honey Bee Piñata I found on Amazon.
Party Favors-Thank You Gifts
I always try to give a nice little gift as a thank you to my friends for coming to the party. This year I made these cute little Honey Jars. I found the jars, honey wands, and Bee charms all on Amazon. the honey was local: Pomegranate & Thistle. So yummy! I found cute ‘Gummy Bear” Key-chains for the little girls, and attached the same Thank yo tag to them all. The Gummy Bears had these floating beads and glitter inside with sayings such as: Diva, Princess, Snuggly, Lucky, etc… on their tummies. They were also found on Amazon.
I had about 50 women and girls in attendance. Note the Bears on the table. I wanted to add more fresh flowers around the bears, but ran out of time!
My Hat Before
I took a plain navy hat and added a lace sash, and then glued on roses and other foliage of shades of yellow. It was very heavy on that side! I had to keep adjusting my hat pin. So next time I make or decorate a hat, I will put the flowers all around the front and sides.
My Hat, After
I couldn’t even get it to stay on the hat stand for a proper picture with out sliding around, due to the heavy nature of the roses! Needless to say, the knot was in the back with the lace tails going down my back. I ended up adding a big Ostrich feather, that you can see below, too.
I do love hosting Tea Parties. It is my way of giving love to all the lovely ladies in my life all at once! It makes them happy, which in turn makes me happy!
My 21 year old daughter Ellie flew home for the weekend to celebrate Mother’s Day with me. She was a huge help as well. Isn’t she pretty!?!
A few of my guests were in their 90’s. Here are 2 girls with their grandmother and their great grandmothers.
Chellie was a huge help too, and really enjoyed herself as well. She wanted to wear a Victorian style dress. She looks so sweet.
I’ll have to do another post of the garden. It was glorious! The weather was perfect, and I was blessed by this, as it was supposed to rain that day.
